9 Christian Songs About Healing

It’s no big spoiler alert that we live in a broken world. Hurts happen. Constantly. Physically, mentally, emotionally – we’ve all experienced pain and brokenness of some kind. All that brokenness comes from the one big BROKEN thing: our spirits.

We’re born being separate from God, and that broken relationship is the root of all our other brokenness. And we can only find true healing in God.

Music and worship can have an incredibly powerful healing effect on us, when we are searching for healing in God. There have been many songs that have healed my heart and words that put me on a journey back to wholeness. Here are some of my favourite songs about healing.

1. Healing Begins by Tenth Avenue North

This is where the healing begins, oh
This is where the healing starts
When you come to where you're broken within
The light meets the dark
The light meets the dark

Sparks will fly as grace collides
With the dark inside of us
So please don't fight
This coming light
Let this blood come cover us
His blood can cover us

Many of Tenth Avenue North’s songs have spoken to me in difficult times, this song included. There is no denying that there is darkness in the world and that leads to brokenness. The list of things that can cause a broken heart is long.

But we don’t need to search through a long list of healing to find what will fix us. The list of true healing power is short, just one thing: Jesus. When we allow Jesus into the dark, broken parts of our life, he will immediately begin to heal our hurts.

2. Healing is Here by Deluge

Healing is here healing is here
Healing is here and I receive it...
Your perfect love is casting out fear
You are the God of all power
And it is Your will that my life is healed

It seems odd to think that we would ever reject healing and wholeness, but sometimes we just don’t like to be helped. We want to be big kids and do it ourselves. But healing our brokenness – either wounds inflicted by others, or the incompleteness that comes from being born into sin – is beyond our own power.

But healing is right there for the taking, if we can only humble ourselves to accept it. Jesus is already offering it to us, and he definitely has the power to do what he says.

3. She Only Touched the Hem of His Garment by George F. Root

Oh, touch the hem of His garment,
And thou, too, shalt be free!
His healing pow’r this very hour
Shall give new life to thee!

This being an old hymn, I was having a difficult time finding a good version of it, but I loved the lyrics so much I had to include it anyway (what, can I say, I’m a words person). It reminded me of this story, which I absolutely love:

A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.

“Who touched me?” Jesus asked.

Everyone denied it, and Peter said, “Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.”

But Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.” When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” – Luke 8:43-48 NLT

She knew that Jesus could heal her, and was bold enough to reach out to him for that healing. That’s all it takes.

4. Come Alive (Dry Bones) by Lauren Daigle

As we call out to dry bones come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones, come alive

There are times when it feels too late for healing. We can feel dead and empty inside, like there’s no turning back. But even a hugely miraculous healing like that is not beyond God’s reach. He calls out to us when we are dead inside, and brings a full transformation to life.

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. – Colossians 2:13 NLT

When we were spiritually dead, God made a way for us to be alive again.

5. You Came (Lazarus) by Jonathan David Helser & Melissa Helser

You said death’s only sleeping
With one word my heart was beating
I rose up from my grave
My fear was turned to faith

God doesn’t want you living in a dead state (...wait...) because, duh, that’s not living! He is able to restore life to every situation.

6. Resurrecting by Elevation Worship

By Your spirit I will rise
From the ashes of defeat
The resurrected King, is resurrecting me
In Your name I come alive
To declare Your victory
The resurrected King, is resurrecting me

These lyrics remind me of this incredible verse:

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. – Ephesians 1:19-20 NLT

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead – a power of new life and healing – is at work in us too! How amazing is that? God is powerful enough to heal any of our hurts and make us completely new.

7. Healer by Kari Jobe

I believe You're my healer
I believe You are all I need
I believe
And I believe You're my portion
I believe You're more than enough for me
Jesus You're all I need

It’s easy to look for healing in all the world has to offer. We try to fill those cracks with things we think will work, but they’re only temporary and partial fixes. Jesus is all that we need to be completely healed and completely filled.

8. Mended by Matthew West

When you see broken beyond repair
I see healing beyond belief
When you see too far gone
I see one step away from home
When you see nothing but damaged goods
I see something good in the making
I'm not finished yet
When you see wounded, I see mended

Guys, we all have moments of pessimism from time to time, particularly when it comes to ourselves. We can get so down on our failures and short comings and our brokenness that we think is too far gone. But no one is beyond the reach of the love of God.

9. Ghost of a King by The Gray Havens

Where no chariot can take you
Where the river meets the sand
There is water there
That can quench your thirsty bones
And make you well

“But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” – John 4:14 NIV

The amazing thing about healing that comes from God, is that it isn’t temporary. If He says you are healed, there’s a period at the end of that sentence. It’s not “you’re healed, but”. It’s not “you’re healed for now”. It’s just “you’re healed”. Period.
